Thursday, October 24, 2024
Meet Dr. Mohammed Weli a young physician working in the Somali region of Ethiopia. Before starting his current training he served as a general practitioner at Denan health center, located on the outskirts of Gode town. Now he is undertaking a training program in Operative Delivery Skill and Surgical System Management (OSSYM) the nationwide training program for general practitioners that is being given by ACSIS in collaboration with Ethiopian ministry of health. OSSYM aims to improve access of pregnant mothers to skilled physicians capable of performing surgical intervention at a primary care level.
Dr. Mohammed is receiving his training at Gode General Hospital, where he is not only embracing the program with determination but also addressing the challenge of maternal refusal to undergo surgical delivery. He is committed to mastering the necessary skills and ensuring he is fully prepared for the journey ahead after completing his training.
Whether day or night, on duty or off, Dr. Mohammed is always ready to assist any mother in need of surgical delivery. His perseverance and readiness to serve are truly admirable qualities in the medical field.
The success of programs such as OSSYM is dependent on the dedication of tireless healthcare workers such as Dr Mohammed, whose commitment to improve maternal and child health within their own communities is truly inspirational to us all.
